The US Spanish-language premium streaming service, Pantaya, kicked off filming in Mexico City for the series “The Beautiful Lie” (non-final title).
Starring and produced by star Kate del Castillo and directed by Hari Sama (“This Is Not Berlin”). The 6-episode drama series is a co-production of Pantaya, Endemol Shine Boomdog and Cholawood Productions, the production company of Kate del Castillo.
“The Beautiful Lie” co-produced with and starring Kate del Castillo as an Olympic gold medal-winning diver and national heroine of Mexico. Her character, Ana Montes de Oca, falls in love with a young musician and embarks on a journey of self-discovery, one that society unfortunately does not accept.
“It is a very important project for me, since it is a Tolstoy classic, which we are recreating in a modern age and which unfortunately is still valid with all the current machismo. The burden that is given to the woman for simply being a woman, and more in an infidelity. Ana is a tragic character, and she is completely alone”, said the protagonist and producer of the series Kate del Castillo.
The sought-after actress famous for “La reina del sur” said this is the fourth project she is acting in and producing with her production company Cholawood Productions, and the first with Pantaya and Endemol Shine Boomdog. “It is very important that we start with a series of this level and of this caliber. It is an achievement, and it is an honor, especially being in my country”.
The actress and producer said that after several years she returns to Mexico and wants to show a great, beautiful, clean, beautiful, powerful, aristocratic Mexico. “The characters are archetypes with which we all identify,” the actress concluded.
Spanish actor Maxi Iglesias said “I am giving 100% to this project, once again outside of my country and getting to know a little more about Mexico and its people. I feel very grateful to be part of this wonderful project.”

“The Beautiful Lie” is a contemporary take on Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, one of history’s greatest love stories, and is based on the 2015 adaptation by Endemol Shine Australia, another Banijay affiliate. Acclaimed Spanish screenwriters Almudena Ocaña and Aurora García Tortosa (“Elite”) are attached to the series.
