Evgenia Markova has been appointed general director of Roskino,
\nthe Russian film promotion organization. Her selection was approved by the
\nRoskino\u2019s board of directors and supported by the Russian Culture Ministry
\nbased on the feedback of major Russian filmmakers, who acclaimed her work at
\ninternational film markets. She replaces Catherine Mtsitouridze who left the
\npost after nine years in the role.
\nCommenting on her appointment, Evgenia Markova set out priorities as new
\nRoskino chief: \u201cRoskino\u2019s mission at the new stage is to create a
\nprofessional national system for supporting the promotion of Russian content
\nabroad. We want to make the country a transparent and reliable partner for
\ninternational community and build up long-term relations with all the key
\nstakeholders in the global industry: filmmakers, buyers, press, festivals,
\nprofessional associations and others.\u201d
\nMajor Russian producers are expecting Markova to propel the promotion of the
\nnational film industry abroad to the next level.
\n\u201cEvgenia Markova is recognized throughout the Russian film industry and
\ninternational buyers\u2019 community. Her experience and enthusiasm can help
\nboost Russia\u2019s exports of scripted formats in the world and deeper integrate
\nRussian content into global markets,\u201d says Fedor Bondarchuk, a member of
\nRoskino\u2019s Board of Directors, Russian director and producer, founder of Art
\nPictures Studio.
\nMarkova arrives in the role with 15-year experience of the international
\nmanagement. At Roskino, she moves up from the position of industry liaison
\ndirector of Expocontent, a company that advises Russian government agencies
\nand leading producers and distributors on international promotion. Markova
\ncoordinated major Russian filmmakers\u2019 participation under a single national
\nbrand at the world’s leading film markets: under the Made in Russia brand
\n(with the support of the Russian Export Center) at the March\u00e9 du film in
\nCannes; and under the Created in Moscow brand (with the support of the
\nMoscow Export Center) at the American Film Market in Santa Monica and the
\nInternational Film Festival in Toronto.
\nUnder her leadership, together with the industry and with the support of the
\nRussian Culture Ministry, the Key Buyers Event, an international forum for
\nforeign content buyers, was held in Moscow, Russia in October 2019, bringing
\ntogether more than 50 executives of major studios and companies from the
\nUnited States, China, Europe and Latin America.
\nShe was also a member of the working group on the creation of a federal
\nrebate system for foreign film producers in Russia. The corresponding
\nRussian government decree was signed in November 2019.

\ninternational film festivals (in Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Toronto and
\nLondon), at film markets (AFM in Los Angeles, EFM in Berlin, March\u00e9 du Film,
