Created in 2018 to promote animation, there will be 26 works competing in ten categories. Spain, Brazil, and Portugal have the largest number of finalists.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The winners will be announced on May 10 at a ceremony in San Crist\u00f3bal de La Laguna, Tenerife.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A total of 26 works from ten Ibero-American countries will compete in the eighth edition of the Quirino Animation Awards. The winners will be announced on May 10 during a ceremony held in San Crist\u00f3bal de La Laguna, Tenerife. Spain and Brazil are the countries with the most nominations (twelve and eight, respectively), followed by Portugal with five and Chile with three. Argentina and Mexico are present with two works each. Cuba, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay complete the list of finalists with one nomination each. Created in 2018 to promote animation from the 23 Latin American countries, the Quirino Awards are primarily sponsored by the Tenerife Island Council through Tenerife Tourism.<\/p>\n

Seven main categories (Feature Film, Series, Short Film, School Short Film, Commissioned Work, Video Game Animation, and Music Video), as well as one or more of the three technical categories (Visual Development, Animation Design, and Sound Design and Original Music).<\/p>\n

Spanish animation confirms its leadership in the region. Chile, Portugal, and Argentina lead with two nominations each in the Series, Short Film, and Music Video categories. Brazil has five nominations in the three technical categories.<\/p>\n

The jury<\/strong><\/span> in charge of selecting the winners is composed of American producer Ben Kalina of Titmouse studio; Spanish researcher and programmer Carolina L\u00f3pez Caballero; Helena Nylander, head of children’s content acquisition at the Swedish public broadcaster SVT; Brazilian animation director, screenwriter, and animator Daniel Bruson; and Leyla Formoso, CEO of the French distributor and production company Prime Entertainment Group.<\/p>\n

For the first time since the Awards’ creation, the finalists were announced in Latin America at an event held at the Spanish Embassy in Buenos Aires. The event was attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Argentina, Joaqu\u00edn de Ar\u00edstegui Laborde; the Vice President of the Tenerife Island Council and Minister of Tourism, Foreign Affairs, and Institutional Relations, Lope Afonso; the Director of the Quirino Ibero-American Animation Awards, Silvina Cornill\u00f3n;<\/strong> and the Awards’ Executive Producer, Jos\u00e9 Luis Farias.<\/p>\n
