New cinematic trends. Sim\u00f3n Mesa Soto’s second feature film won the award in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, which took place from May 14 to 24, in France.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In the comedy genre, the film was selected in the Film Projects category of the Bogot\u00e1 Audiovisual Market – BAM (2023), with support from the Fund for Film Development – FDC.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The feature film “A Poet” (Colombia, Germany, Sweden), by Sim\u00f3n Mesa Soto, was born in Medell\u00edn, Colombia, in 1986. Famous for the short film “Leidi,” winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival (2014), the Un Certain Regard award, in the Cannes Film Festival section, is awarded for highlighting new cinematic trends.<\/p>\n

This is the director’s second feature film. “With joy, everyone, including the lead actor, hopes this is the beginning of a journey for the film to be seen by many. It’s a comedy, and we want Colombian cinema to reach audiences with stories that move us and make us laugh,” the director told various media outlets, including TVMAS, on May 19, after the screening of the feature film at the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n

One of the jurors, Louise Courvoisier (French director and screenwriter), commented: “For her authenticity and impeccably crafted performances, for giving equal attention to each role, for her delicate handling of morally questionable characters with humor, tenderness, and for her originality and unexpected twists, the Jury Prize goes to “A Poet” by Simon Mesa.”<\/p>\n

The film was written and directed by Sim\u00f3n Mesa Soto, with photography by Juan Sarmiento G., ADFC, and BVK. Art direction by Camila Agudelo, sound by Eloisa Arcila & Ted Krotkiewski, editor by Ricardo Saravia, composers by Trio Ramberget and Matti Bye, and producers by Manuel Ruiz Montealegre, Juan Sarmiento G., and Sim\u00f3n Mesa Soto.<\/p>\n
