On-site coverage by Amanda Ospina, Director of TVMAS
- “From September 29 to October 2, this sixth edition established itself as a unique global gathering for the Ibero-American and Portuguese industry. With participation from 54 countries across Ibero-America, it also attracted major companies from South Korea, Italy, and Turkey. K-Dramas took center stage with the ‘From Korea to the World’ session featuring Hong Jong-Chan and highlighting the global success of Korean content.”
- “After four intense days of panels and screenings, the event is evolving into a truly global gathering, drawing participants from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.”
Set against the historic and architecturally stunning backdrop of Matadero Madrid in the Spanish capital, the event concluded with record-breaking figures: 3,400 professionals and over 1,700 companies from 54 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Accreditation numbers saw a 20% increase in 2026 compared to the previous year. The creators and organizers of this innovative event succeeded in boosting participation both in terms of attendees and companies from Ibero-America and Portuguese-speaking nations, while also attracting participants from countries such as South Korea, Italy, and Turkey, among others.
The spacious Plaza Matadero area hosted 12 stands: Inter Medya, Movistar Plus, Atresmedia, RTVE, Secuoya Studios, Mexico, EGEDA, Italy Pavilion, OM-MA, the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, and the Madrid Film Office. The event featured an extensive area for distributors and producers, as well as a dedicated zone for buyers.
EGEDA Mexico’s initiative to spotlight Mexico a pioneer in the Latin American film industry boasting 27 Oscars won by filmmakers, actors, technicians, and artists such as Alfonso Cuarón (5 Oscars), Guillermo del Toro (4 Oscars), Emmanuel Lubezki (3 Oscars), and Anthony Quinn (2 Oscars), alongside a powerful, globally distributed telenovela industry set this event apart from many others in the sector. It also proved to be a delight for the entrepreneurs, investors, leaders, media representatives, and attendees of this successful sixth edition.
The program the event’s core sparked immense interest among participants, filling conference halls with discussions on current industry challenges: trends, new languages, narratives, formats, the impact of streaming and Artificial Intelligence, financing, film commission incentives, and the technological and logistical structures needed to take the audiovisual sector to the next level. I must confess, I was truly impressed. Why do I say this? Because I waited in line to enter the main auditorium for the presentation by Javiera Balmaceda and Nicole Morganti (Amazon MGM Studios) on the hot topic “Local Stories with Global Impact.” I witnessed Alex Marin VP of RCN Studios (Colombia) and his three companions leave in frustration because the hall was completely packed and there was no room left. I waited patiently. I was able to get in ten minutes later when a couple of executives left likely to attend other meetings leaving behind a long line of people still waiting for entry.
Another aspect that caught my attention, unlike at other events, was the excellent work of the communications team. They worked hand-in-hand with participants and specialized media to coordinate interviews, thereby amplifying communication among exhibitors, attendees, speakers, and the press. Many colleagues and I myself included have to manage interview schedules and gather information at almost every event we attend. Kudos, therefore, to Raquel Garcia, the event’s Director of Communications and Marketing; she leads a large, highly organized, and productive newsroom, making it possible for journalists, publicists, and digital designers to collaborate effectively and drive the success of this powerful event.
Created by EGEDA and the Secuoya Foundation in collaboration with FIPCA and backed by the Madrid Film Office, Film Madrid Región, the Ministry of Culture, the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, the Spain Film Commission, and ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, among others the event was a resounding success. It featured over 1,300 projects across pitch sessions and co-production forums aimed at boosting financing and international distribution, while bringing together more than 200 global buyers and commissioning executives from major platforms and studios.
