As MIPCOM CANNES 2026 drew to a close, the week marked by significant announcements, new partnerships, and high-level industry discussions demonstrated how the global television and digital entertainment sector is leveraging disruption to create new growth opportunities. Major companies connected with a new wave of creators, brands, and platforms, as well as artificial intelligence and technology firms, unlocking new sources of intellectual property (IP), investment, and commercial prospects.

The market welcomed 10,100 delegates including 3,150 buyers from 104 countries. The top ten participating nations were the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Turkey, Canada, Spain, Italy, Japan, and India.

MIPJUNIOR, held over the weekend preceding the main market, brought together 600 participants, including 165 buyers. The next edition will take place in Cannes from October 18 to 21, 2027.

MIPCOM CANNES served as a venue for major international agreements, partnerships, and product launches. “Our strategy is clear: to strengthen MIPCOM’s core international content business, while bringing together the companies, investment, technology, and new business models that are driving the transformation of the global entertainment industry,” stated Lucy Smith, Director of MIPCOM CANNES. “We are actively shaping the opportunities presented by this transformation—connecting established industry leaders with new partners, new sources of intellectual property (IP), and new avenues for growth. This year’s edition of MIPCOM has demonstrated this strategy of change in action.”

Focus on international business and major announcements

Among the international business announcements, Globo unveiled global licensing and format deals, while BBC Studios expanded its partnership with Samsung TV Plus by adding four FAST channels. Meanwhile, ITV Studios reported on international activity regarding formats, and FOX Entertainment announced a new alliance with Kevin Hart’s company, Hartbeat, focused on the “vertical drama” format—reflecting the growing commercial activity surrounding this new form of storytelling.

The market also served as a venue for significant industry discussions. Jeff Zucker and Marco Bassetti delivered their first joint keynote following the merger of Banijay Entertainment and All3Media; additionally, David Decker gave his first interview as President of Skydance Content Sales to *MIPCOM Daily News*. Furthermore, Bela Bajaria, Chief Content Officer at Netflix, was honored with the ‘Variety Vanguard Award’ in recognition of her leadership and impact on the global entertainment industry.

The market also highlighted how traditional entertainment companies are being joined by platforms, brands, agencies, creators, and firms specializing in artificial intelligence (AI). YouTube returned with an expanded presence, alongside companies such as Dentsu, Meta, and TikTok, as well as creator-led businesses and innovative firms in the field of AI. The introduction of ‘MIP BrandWorks’ with Dentsu as its first Headline Partner has created new opportunities to connect brands and agencies with producers, studios, and creators. The MIP BrandWorks CXO Summit brought together leaders from the media, technology, and artificial intelligence sectors to explore how to develop intellectual property, finance content, and establish commercial partnerships, with the goal of transforming new ideas into concrete actions.

The growing importance of these connections is attested to by many participants.

“We’ve had real conversations here about what we can build together, and I hope to see even more creators next year. MIPCOM is truly meeting the moment by bringing creators together with partners who can help their ideas reach a global audience,” noted Billy Parks, Director of FOX Creator Studios.

Cathy Boxall, from Dentsu, remarked: “We have clearly moved past the debate over why brands should be involved in content creation; the question now is how.”

MIPCOM faces significant challenges as it continues to support both established companies and new ventures within an industry defined by constant change and major hurdles. “My takeaway from the perspective of the media covering such an important event is that, whether critical or full of praise, participants are confident that by 2027, MIPCOM will surprise us with new catalysts for change, opening up broad pathways for the creators and visionaries who drive what will always be a powerful entertainment industry,” says Amanda Ospina, Director & Editor of TVMAS.
