Members have re-elected two of the union’s highest-ranking women. “I want all members to be respected and I will continue to fight against marginalization and discrimination.” Fran Drescher.
Fran Drescher was elected president of SAG-AFTRA on September 2, 2021, and re-elected on September 8, 2023. The actress and comedian rose to international stardom for her performance in The Nanny, which she also co-created and produced executive.
“I feel honored for this second term as president of the union. These are dynamic times, and all members will weather the storms. “I want all members to be respected and I will continue to fight against marginalization and discrimination.”
“Our main objective as a union must be to ensure that everyone has the same opportunities to work. Together we will see partisanship fade as we develop a new culture of respect and patiently speak from the heart to make decisions based on wisdom and not politics,” she said forcefully.
Fran Drescher added that “Much has been achieved in the last two years and I am optimistic that the next two will be the best in our history. As we realize, each experience brings better opportunities, and we will enter a Golden Age for SAG-AFTRA.”
Re-elected Secretary-Treasurer Joely Fisher said, “In these difficult times, artists are doing what they have always done best: working together to achieve a common goal. I appreciate your trust in my work on behalf of my union brothers and sisters and I am firm in my commitment to you.”
“When we were fighting against the entire showbiz establishment, the last thing we needed was to fight among ourselves and agree. We have achieved it! And, our president, Drescher and I will move forward with the same commitment to unity that we have demonstrated. “We are very excited to work together with everyone to usher in a new era for SAG-AFTRA, where we all have to be respected and compensated for our contribution to this industry.”
SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said, “I congratulate our re-elected leaders and the entire renewed board of directors. “I look forward to working with this great team elected across the country who bring numerous union initiatives and goals.”
