ATVC DAYS in Argentina: the great challenge of cable TV, international and LATAM programmers and distributors

Sergio Veiga. Director of sales for the southern LATAM region of Ole Distribution and president of the Chamber of Pay TV Programmers (CAPSSA)

In this dialogue with TVMAS he contrasts the situation in Argentina and states that “Subscribers have never had such a varied and diverse offer of content available as in these times.”

Sergio Veiga explains that cable operators have transformed their value proposition, focusing on making content more accessible through various devices and platforms. “Several programmers have integrated their platforms with the Pay TV offer of distributors, facilitating access to a wider variety of programming.”

Regarding the challenges of cable operators, he focuses on the fact that “it is important to update their technological infrastructure and adapt to new digital platforms to remain relevant, which entails strong investments.”

Veiga highlights that it is crucial for cable operators to find sustainable business models and effective strategies to retain and attract subscribers in a constantly changing market.

Regarding programmers, he states that “the cost of content has increased in recent times due to the expansion of the offer of platforms and channels that compete for the preferences of the public. This has multiplied the windows in which content can be displayed and therefore has increased its value.”

This expansion, added to political and economic issues, undoubtedly puts pressure on the profitability of the operation of programmers, distributors and cable operators. “The macroeconomic crises in several countries mean that the industry in the different links of the value chain is increasingly challenged,” explains Argentine Sergio Veiga, an executive with a solid and extensive track record in the media industry in Latin America, a specialist in cable TV and programming distribution in the southern region of LATAM.

ATVC INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES 2024.

An event that in the 90s had its heyday when the cable TV business was in robust health and was held in Costa Salguero, under the presidency of Horacio Giubelalde, then president of the Argentine Cable Television Association. In its tenth edition due to market concentration, the event began to lose its shine.

Veiga closes and refers to it as follows: “CAPPSA, together with the Argentine Cable Television Association, has organized the International Conferences of Argentina for 34 years, in a synergy that encompasses the entire ecosystem of content and ICT companies in Latin America. To date, we have the support of more than 40 exhibiting companies and advertisers. Far from thinking that this event has shrunk dramatically, I believe that we are very strong and this year we will surprise you, as always, at the event that brings us all together again.”
