Onza has acquired the audiovisual adaptation rights to this latest hit by writer and journalist Máximo Huerta, originally published by Editorial Planeta earlier this year. With this deal, ONZA secures one of the most successful literary properties in the current fiction landscape. Since its release, the work has been warmly received by readers and has remained consistently in the top 15 best-selling fiction books in Spain for weeks.
THE STORY
‘Mamá está dormida’ tells the story of a fifty-three year old man who has always believed he was an only child until the first signs of his mother’s cognitive decline shatter his certainties with an unexpected question: “And your brother where is he?” To discover whether this is a trick of the mind or a long-buried family secret, the two embark on a journey of revelation in a camper van to Vera de Bidasoa, a mountain village shaped by the mother’s past involvement with the ‘Sección Femenina’. The trip transforms into a compelling road movie that blends intimate drama with mystery, exploring the fragility of memory and the impact of silences from the past.
THE AUTHOR SPEAKS
“I am thrilled that ‘Mamá está dormida’ is coming to the big screen. Novels are always born in solitude and amidst many doubts.” “This story will bring the faces of great actors to the screen a tremendous gift,”declares the author, adding, I am deeply grateful and excited at the thought that these two characters and the story will be able to move people through the medium of cinema.”
A COMMITMENT TO FEATURE FILMS
Onza is taking a strategic step forward by reinforcing its commitment to producing feature films for theatrical release, building on the cinematic direction established with the recent filming of its latest movie, ‘Entre Viñas’.
In doing so, the company is expanding its solid television track record into premium film projects, championing compelling stories rich in emotion and complex characters that will captivate audiences.

It is a story that brings together elements capable of deeply captivating the audience, provided the adaptation lives up to the material.”
