- The initiative seeks to strengthen the role of the communications sector in promoting equality and to consolidate Latin America as an active region in building more inclusive narratives, through collaboration among UN Women, companies, agencies, content creators, academia, and other key players in the creative industry.
During the 2026 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the Argentine chapter of the Unstereotype Alliance a global initiative convened by UN Women announced the second edition of the Unstereotype Alliance Summit LATAM 2026, to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Summit will be hosted by R.E.D. Di Tella and will take place on October 6, 2026, at Torcuato Di Tella University.
The announcement was made in France during the creative industry’s premier global gathering, reaffirming the leadership of the Argentine chapter of the Unstereotype Alliance in driving the regional agenda across Latin America. From Argentina, the initiative has fostered spaces for dialogue, training, and innovation, positioning the country today as a regional hub for the exchange of knowledge and best practices aimed at transforming narratives and social norms.

The Summit will bring together communicators, private sector leaders, agencies, and academia with the goal of promoting responsible approaches to content production and contributing to the elimination of harmful stereotypes in media and advertising. The 2026 edition will place special emphasis on topics currently driving the global conversation at Cannes Lions, including generative artificial intelligence, the creator economy, responsible communication, inclusive representation, and the role of sports as a driver of equality and cultural transformation.
Communication continues to act as a barrier for women and girls. Globally, women represent only 26% of people featured in the news, and the majority of content fails to challenge gender stereotypes. Against this backdrop, global initiatives like the Unstereotype Alliance are driving tools and standards designed to promote equality-focused practices within the private sector.
“Narratives do not merely reflect reality; they help shape it. That is why it is so vital for content creators, technology developers, brand leaders, and campaign designers to come together and discuss the stories we tell and the futures we enable. The fact that the LATAM Summit is being announced at Cannes Lions—and that Buenos Aires will once again host this regional gathering—recognizes the leadership Argentina has established in this area alongside the private sector, as well as the region’s capacity to drive conversations that are central to the future of communication today,” noted Mariana Massaccesi, Private Sector Specialist at the UN Women office in Argentina and leader of the Unstereotype Alliance in South America.
Meanwhile, Yan De Simone, CEO and Founder of BI UNIVERSE a member company of the Unstereotype Alliance’s Argentine chapter highlighted: “Participation in Cannes Lions and the announcement of this new Summit edition reinforce the commitment of the sector in Argentina and the region to promoting narratives that neither normalize nor perpetuate harmful stereotypes, and that contribute to representations enabling new, possible futures for everyone.”
Verónica Baracat, Officer in Charge of the UN Women office in Argentina, emphasized: “Eliminating harmful gender stereotypes in advertising is a necessary step toward more egalitarian societies.”
As part of the announcement made at Cannes Lions 2026, the Argentine chapter of the Unstereotype Alliance is also welcoming new members to the collaborative work driven by the initiative. London Supply Group and Ukelele are joining in this new phase, strengthening the diversity of stakeholders committed to building a more inclusive communication industry free from stereotypes.
The announcement at Cannes Lions 2026 reaffirms the commitment of UN Women and the Unstereotype Alliance to building more inclusive narratives and positions Argentina as a regional hub for driving conversations, partnerships, and innovation regarding the future of communication and gender equality.
