Thrillers from Spain will be on display. Asuntos Internos (Mediacrest Entertainment, RTVE) and Matices (Secuoya Studios, StellarMedia, SkyShowtime, Beta Film), are part of a panel that will address the international success of Spanish thrillers.

The date is from February 16 to 19, 2025 and attracts the audiovisual industry at a global level for the acquisition, pre-sale and co-production of high-quality episodic content.

The umbrella brand of ICEX Spain Exportation and Investments, which brings together a large part of the Spanish audiovisual production offer for its international promotion, will attend the Berlinale Series Market for the third consecutive year with the presentation of the Spanish Thrillers Showcase, next Monday, February 17 at the CinemaxX 1 multiplex in Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.

The Berlinale Series Market, an initiative of the European Film Market, Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents, will take place from 16 to 19 February 2025 and attracts the global audiovisual industry for the acquisition, pre-sale and co-production of high-quality episodic content, in an event also focused on pitch sessions and a selection of thematic panels that will analyse the most current trends.

The Spanish Thrillers panel brings the success of two productions led by Spanish companies, which demonstrate the strength of a genre that incorporates current social issues of global impact into its plots: Internal Affairs (Mediacrest Entertainment, RTVE), with the participation of Cristian Liarte, Director of Global Business Development at Mediacrest; and José Pastor, Director of Film and Fiction at RTVE); and Matices (Secuoya Studios, StellarMedia, SkyShowtime, Beta Film), with the assistance of María García-Castrillón, Director of Co-productions at Secuoya Studios; Sergio Cánovas, showrunner and director; and Christian Gockel, EVP Acquisitions & Sales and New Media at Beta Film. The session will be moderated by John Hopewell, International Features Editor at Variety.

Internal Affairs is backed by the great reception it has received after its appearance at various European industry events before its premiere on the public channel this Wednesday, February 12. It is a six-episode thriller that delves into the life of a young police commissioner from a working-class neighborhood, at a time of profound transformation of Spanish society at the end of the 1970s, delving into the universe of the first women who formed part of the National Police during the Transition.

The police series, which combines intrigue, tension, action and drama, has been created by Pedro García Ríos and Rodrigo Martín Antoranz; under the direction of María Togores and Samantha López Speranza. It stars Laia Manzanares, Silvia Abascal, Nacho Fresneda, Luis Callejo, Carla Campra, Marta Poveda, Nico Romero, César Vicente, Javier Collado, Josema Pichardo and Josean Bengoetxea, with the special collaboration of Manuela Vellés and Miki Esparbé.

Shades THE STORY

It is a psychological thriller full of mystery created by Sergio Cánovas, Alex Meriweather and Javier Naya; and directed by Sergio Cánovas, which will arrive on the SkyShowtime platform in the coming months.

Six patients meet in a remote winery to complete the treatment of a renowned, exceptional and charismatic psychiatrist, who has become an eminence in his field thanks to his famous method, which has achieved a very high percentage of cures among the most complex and difficult patients.

After an unusual ceremonial tasting, a fateful event will occur that will give an unexpected turn to the events. A shrewd police inspector will take charge of the case and discover the truth about the traumas of the patients and the doctor. In a parallel with wine, the series will discover that people are full of nuances, including the inspector.

The eight-episode fiction has a stellar cast made up of Maxi Iglesias, Miriam Giovanelli, Juana Acosta, Hovik Keuchkerian, Fariba Sheikhan, Eusebio Poncela, Enrique Arce, Raúl Prieto and Elsa Pataky.

This showcase is also developed within the agreement established between Iberseries & Platino Industria and Berlinale Series Market, constituting a milestone between the cooperation of the European Film Market and the main international meeting for professionals linked to the Ibero-American audiovisual industry.

Iberseries & Platino Industria will celebrate its fifth edition from September 30 to October 3, 2025 at Matadero Madrid, promoted by EGEDA and Fundación Secuoya, in collaboration with FIPCA. It is supported by the Community of Madrid, Madrid City Council and ICEX Spain Export and Investments, and sponsored by Madrid Film Office and Film Madrid.
