  • MIFA is the renowned international market associated with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The company’s CEO, Charles Barthe, discussed the strategic role post-production plays in the animation industry to ensure global distribution and win over audiences.

The participation of LABO, a Mexico-based company, highlighted the role post-production processes play in the development and global circulation of animation projects at MIFA the international market for the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in eastern France. Animation ranging from feature films and series to content for digital platforms is a genre that has demonstrated a remarkable ability to connect with audiences of all ages and build universes that transcend borders.

Its significance is such that the industry gathers every year in Annecy, France, for what is considered the world’s most important event for creators, studios, producers, and specialists in the animation sector. Beyond serving as a showcase for new productions, the festival also highlights the various disciplines that make it possible for an animated story to reach the screen.

“While we often think of illustrators, visual artists, and beloved characters when discussing animation, the reality is that creating the final frame is just one part of the process,” says Charles Barthe, CEO of LABO. He adds, “We often see the final result, but there is significant technical and creative work behind it. Animation presents unique challenges because every project establishes its own rules, worlds, and visual and sonic requirements.”

“Unlike other formats, nothing in animation is captured spontaneously; every color, texture, sound, and movement is crafted to tell a story. Post-production allows us to refine all those elements and prepare the materials so the project reaches cinemas, television, or digital platforms with the required quality,” said Bernardo Pérez, Post-Production Supervisor at LABO.

The company supports Mexican producers, distributors, and audiovisual creators. Notable titles include ‘Mi Amigo el Sol’, ‘Un Reino para Todos Nosotros’, ‘Un Disfraz para Nicolás’, ‘Ángel en el Reloj’, and ‘El Chapulín y los Colorado’ with ‘Gungo y los Juegos Cavernícolas’ coming soon helping to bring these stories to audiences while meeting the technical and quality standards demanded by today’s industry.
