After three years of the merger in the US, the country’s Ministry of Internal Trade has finally given its approval to the operation by approving the sale of three basic Fox Sports channels to the Mediapro Group.

Last January, the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (CNDC), belonging to the Secretariat of Internal Trade of the Ministry of Productive Development of the Nation, had demanded that The Walt Disney Company divest from sports channels, among other conditions, to approve its merger with Fox in the country.

Given the demands, Disney agreed in February to transfer “to a new competitor” all the rights and content required by the competent authority. That new competitor is the international group Mediapro, which took over the basic channels Fox Sports and all “the rights corresponding to the content that was broadcast on those channels.”

According to the information that is known, the contents that are now in Mediapro’s portfolio are The Copa Conmebol Libertadores de América, the UEFA Champions League, the NFL, the MLB, Formula 1, the UFC, the WWE, the Premier Boxing Champions, the ACB Basketball League, the World Rugby Sevens and the ATP World Tour 250 – ATP Córdoba.

Mediapro will assume control of the basic signals within a period of six months.
