The name of Colombia resonated at the closing gala of the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival, officially known as the Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in the world

The Festival, which has been held annually since 1932, awarded the best actress in the ‘Horizons’ section for her performance in “Paradise,” an Italian film by director Enrico Maria Artale. The actress, singer and model was born in Cali, Colombia and began her career as a child.

Margarita Rosa played ‘La Gaviota, la Mencha, la Caponera’ and many other characters that live in the hearts of Colombians and captivated audiences in other countries.

The actress received an award for the film directed by Enrico Maria Artale, El Paraíso, which also won the award for best script.

According to director Artale, this film is a love story between a mother and her son, “a vivid tragedy that immerses its heroes in the constantly changing nuances of their most intimate moods, in the delicacy and violence”.

“I thank my country, which has given me everything, professionally and personally,” declared the actress. She is the daughter of the actor and musician Gerardo de Francisco and the designer and costume designer Mercedes Baquero.
