Globo has recently announced that two major highlights of its catalog were licensed to AMC Networks. With the new deal, ‘Jailers’ and the Brazilian version of ‘Supermax’ will be featured in the Sundance Now and Shudder premium streaming services, respectively. The series will be available to viewers in North America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland in original Portuguese audio and local language subtitles.
“This deal showcases the consistent quality of our new series produced in recent years, with high production value, current and relevant subjects, and huge potential to win over audiences across different countries and platforms”, said Raphael Corrêa Netto, Globo’s Executive Director of International Businesses.
The Brazilian version of ‘Supermax’ is a thriller about participants in a fictional reality show competing for a million-dollar prize while confined in a deactivated maximum security prison in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest. When the participants lose all contact with the production staff what seemed to be an environment with calculated risks suddenly becomes a place where things are completely out of control. The participants must put their own physical and psychological limits to the test as they fight for their own survival.
Created by José Alvarenga Jr., Marçal Aquino and Fernando Bonassi, and directed by José Alvarenga Jr., the basic plot of the series inspired an international version with the same name, co-produced between Globo and Oficina Burman, Mediaset (Spain), TV Azteca (Mexico), and TVP (Argentina), in strategic partnership with Teledoce (Uruguay).
