Q3 2023 ended with 3.12 million Pay TV subscribers and the market has been falling for one year and nine consecutive months, according to a SUBTEL report.
The Undersecretary of Telecommunications of Chile (Subtel) revealed the number of pay TV subscribers for the third quarter of 2023 with a decrease in subscribers, the period closed with 3.12 million. According to the data, the Chilean Pay TV market recorded its seventh consecutive quarter in decline. At the end of Q4 2021, the last quarter with customer growth, the industry had 3.45 million.

FIGURES. The largest subscriber base by operator as of September 2023 was VTR (Liberty Latin America) with 883 thousand. It was followed by Movistar (Telefónica) with 661 thousand, DirecTV (Grupo Werthein) with 579 thousand and Mundo Pacífico with 384 thousand. But upon authorization of the merger between VTR and Claro (América Móvil) with the sale of Claro’s Satellite TV business, Subtel reported Claro’s two access technologies separately; As of Q3 2023, Cable had a total of 136 thousand users and DTH had a total of 169 thousand.

MARKET SHARE. The percentage of subscribers by company is: VTR 28.3%, Movistar 21.2%, DirecTV 18.6%, Mundo Telecomunicaciones 12.3%, Claro DTH 5.4% and Claro Cable 4. 4%.
Cable TV and IPTV have more customers than Satellite TV.
The regulatory body also reported that wired access technology (Cable TV and IPTV) is superior in number of clients to satellite at the end of the third period of 2023. While the first had 2.2 million subscribers, the second had with scarce 924 thousand in the country.
