INCAA closed its doors

NEWS | FILM SECTOR IN ARGENTINA

The expectations of the film sector of an Oscar-winning country, Argentina, are “like frozen chicken in a hot pot.”

The National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) of Argentina was closed on Monday, April 22 for a period of 90 days to carry out a restructuring after more than 300 layoffs and suspension of financing for audiovisual projects.

This initiative by Javier Milei’s government is applauded, but also detractors, who affirm that this change project affects the film sector and argue that the INCAA not only generates jobs, but is also supported by its own funds.  They also demand to maintain the “Schools go to the movies” program, for the training of children and youth audiences.

The latest news that TVMAS obtained at the close of this edition is the complaint for intervention in the content of audiovisual projects with a recently created area “Quality Control”. This new area will control the process, during and after completion of the content of the audiovisual projects. Anticipating that they will not support films that refer to political moments from the date up to 15 years ago.

Among these changes, the Film Promotion Fund (FFC) was also diluted. Thus, the expectations of the film sector of an Oscar-winning country, Argentina, are “like frozen chicken in a hot pot” and will be resolved towards the end of July or next August.
