In addition to awards and contests.

“We have established a collaborative structure between the commissions to maximize the benefits for the audiovisual industry in the region”

‘We are going to MIP CANCUN 2024 to present the FILMS COMMISSION Network and the actions we are carrying out.’

In this interview with TVMAS she talks about the activities for the development and financing of audiovisual content and the projects aimed at the immediate successful future of the sector, not only in Argentina, but also in the entire region.

There are two months left to complete the first year of her duties in the general direction of creative and cultural industries, in charge of the Buenos Aires Film Commission, (December 22, 2023) and with the commitment with which she is accustomed to assuming responsibilities, Carolina knew that she was facing a great challenge in her brilliant career that she assumes as she defines “first for personal and professional development. Dreaming, deciding, achieving and contributing” is a natural daily exercise for Carolina, born in Buenos Aires and bravely in a country in processes of political, economic and social change. This outstanding woman is sealing a year of great achievements and projects assigned by Minister Gabriela Ricardes to be part of her team.

“Today, I feel proud of what we have achieved from this ministry. We have repositioned the local audiovisual industry, highlighting the talent and creative capacity of our professionals, in addition to generating new opportunities and connections for the sector” she says, with the enthusiasm that characterizes her.

IBERO-AMERICAN NETWORK OF FILM COMMISSIONS

From the first day of work, she undertook, without fear and with pride of sitting in that chair, a wonderful project: the creation of an Ibero-American network of film commissions. We asked her: What are the advances in this great initiative and what are the objectives to close this 2024?

“Currently, more than 100 cities in the region are part of the Ibero-American Network of Film Commissions. We highlight the participation of the members, which allows us to advance in key areas such as the coordination of tax incentives, the management of locations and permits, as well as the implementation of distribution strategies. We have managed to establish a collaborative structure between the commissions to align our efforts and maximize the benefits for the audiovisual industry in the region”.

Among so many challenges, which has been the one in these 10 months of management that has made you work too many hours?

Achieving cohesion between the commissions with different realities and diversity. However, we are moving forward to close 2024 by fulfilling our main objectives, such as consolidating the network’s positioning; finalizing the framework agreement that we are currently drafting, and launching the actions that we are proposing for the period 2025 – 2026. Motivating more film commissions and entities that allow this network to expand. We will be at Mip Cancun, presenting the Network and the actions that we are carrying out.

Argentina ranked fourth worldwide in the export of telenovelas, fiction series and formats. Today, it is an industry that has disappeared even at the local level. Do you believe in the return of production in Argentina, co-productions and the promotion of the export of content?

I am convinced that not only in Argentina, but with the co-production of countries with too much talent in our Latin American region, we will once again export high-quality content. A region that concentrates more than 600 million inhabitants who speak the same language and share the same origin, in a territory of more than 20,000,000 square kilometers. With such a vast, wide and diverse territory, our opportunities expand. We just must organize ourselves, come to an agreement, build the scenario that facilitates the exchange and connection between our creators and producers of content and generate synergy.

What is the reality of the industry in your country? Let’s talk about film, TV, production, associations and unions of actors, directors and the industry in general…

I think that in all crisis opportunities arise. Today we are going through changes, both in the local and global industry. But that leads us to analysis and creative undertakings to improve.

Carolina Cordero will be giving a scheduled interview to TVMAS at MIP Cancun, a key event for the development of the industry in Latin America and of which TVMAS is a MEDIA PARTNER. (Strategic partner).
