The Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) published key official data for public policies and the private sector.
In Colombia, income from fixed Internet service reached $1.57 trillion pesos in the fourth quarter of 2022. According to these figures, the penetration rate of the service increased 0.5 percentage points in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching a penetration of 46 accesses for every 100 homes.
In technologies, the report highlights that fiber optic accesses reached 2.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2022, increasing by 39.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The average fixed Internet download speed nationwide in this period was 131.2 Mbps, which represents a growth of 72.7% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
In the case of fiber optic connections, the average download speed was 163.5 Mbps, while for cable it was 143.6 Mbps, while the other technologies (xDSL, Satellite, among others) showed speeds lower than 20Mbps.
“The report presented by the Commission reflects that the penetration of Internet access through fiber optics continues to increase, which shows a positive advance in terms of network modernization in the country,” explained Nicolás Silva Cortés, Commissioner and Executive Director of the CRC.
Silva Cortes is an Electronic engineer and Master in Business Administration and Management. He recently assumed his new role, after the end of the management period of the communications commissioner Paola Bonilla Castaño, whom we interviewed several times here at TVMAS.
